OUR AREA

Guests can always find interesting things to do in our beautiful area.

Out our back door...

Once you are settled in you can think about what you might like to do with your weekend. Start out gently. Walk out our back door onto Mountain Road. On a nice day you might branch off into Lincoln Davis Forest and look for signs of moose, deer, coyote or fox. Feeling vigorous? Climb the mile+ up Berry Pasture Trail to the grandly scenic ridges of the Wapack Trail.

Serenity? It's but a short drive to an absolutely beautiful river's edge walk at the Wales Preserve here in Sharon...you'll hear the tumbling river but not much more.

Want to go for it? Twenty minutes and you're at the base of Mount Monadnock (the most climbed mountain in America). Two hours will get you to the peak and views into all six New England states on a clear day. Some trails are easier than others.

Would you rather canoe or kayak? Several dozen lakes, rivers and ponds are nearby. The fishing is great in both summer and winter. Golfers love our courses---scenic, uncrowded and most affordable.

Of course fall foliage is legendary, and its never more spectacular than out our back door or anywhere in the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire. For information about peak season call us at (603)924-3503 or the foliage hotline 800-258-3608.

Snow time, and the cross-country skiers head for Windblown, just three miles down the road. They rent and fit everything you'll need, and offer great hearty soups and sandwiches in front of the fire.

And if you have your own skis or snowshoes, you'll want to explore the logging roads and trails behind our house. Be sure to take one of our animal track identifiers with you.

Courses ranging from one day to one week are at the Sharon Arts Center just across the road. Highly affordable classes and workshops in drawing, painting, jewelry, ceramics, weaving, wood carving and printmaking, call for a catalogue (603) 924-7256, or visit them online at www.sharonarts.org

Exploring farther...

It's just four miles in to the charming village of Peterborough, where you can wander through unique shops, dine at one of the many fine restaurants, or stroll along the river with an ice cream cone. Enjoy the Monadnock Art Open Studio Tour or the Wool Arts Tour every October. On a summer evening, try the Monadnock Music Festival, the Peterborough Players, or the Apple Hill Center Chamber Music.

If it's wintertime and you are a downhill skier, you will enjoy Crotched Mountain Ski Area only thirty minutes away.

A short drive takes you to Keene, a college town famed for its lovely Main Street. More quality restaurants, shops and the offerings of the Colonial Theater will make you want to spend the evening. Also here is the Keene Music Festival, which lights up every October to break its own Guiness Book record of 29,000 lighted jack-o-lanterns in one place at one time. It's great fun, but book early!

Day Trips...

After a day or two exploring the Monadnock region, you may want to head out a little farther. An hour's drive can take you to the Marlborough Music Festival, the Lowell Mills National Historic Park, Canterbury Shaker Village, the Yellow Barn Music Festival, the Currier Museum of Art or the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium. And an unhurried drive will bring you back "home" for to sit in front of the fire or settle in for a good night's sleep.

Visit the Greater Peterborough Chamber website for updates on calendar events for the Monadnock region and greater Peterborough.
