Our Area

Room Availability

Now that you're settled in you can think about what you might like to do with your weekend. Start out gently. Walk out our back door onto Mountain Road. On a nice day you might branch off into Lincoln Davis Forest and look for signs of moose, deer, coyote or fox.

Feeling vigorous? Climb the mile+ up Berry Patch Trail to the grandly scenic ridges of the Wapack Trail.

Serenity? It's but a short drive to an absolutely beautiful river's edge walk at the Wales Preserve here in Sharon….you'll hear the tumbling river but not much more.

Want to go for it? 20 minutes and you're at the base of Mount Monadnock (the most climbed mountain in America). Two hours will get you to the peak and views into all six New England states on a clear day. Some trails are easier than others .

Would you rather canoe or kayak? Several dozen lakes, rivers and ponds are nearby. The fishing is great in both summer and winter. Golfers love our courses---scenic, uncrowded and most affordable.

Snow time, and the cross-country skiers head for Windblown (3 miles down the road--www.windblownxc.com). They rent and fit everything you'll need, and offer great hearty soups andsandwiches in front of the fire.

And if you have your own skis or snowshoes, you'll want to explore the logging roads and trails behind our house. Be sure to take one of our animal track identifiers with you.

And if you want to mix in just a bit of gentle downhill, Temple Mountain Ski Area is just next door.

Shops, Entertainment, Dining:

Do you like to poke through antique and arts & crafts shops? They abound in the Monadnock region....we'll give you a guide map.

How about music and theater? Try the Peterborough Players (professional summer theater), the Monadnock Music Series (classical) or the Peterborough Folk Music Society presentations of the country's best known folksingers.

In easy reach are a number of fine restaurants with casual, relaxed atmospheres, and surprisingly varied menus.

Activities, Events:

JULY
visit Rhododendron State Park in Fitzwilliam with its stand of 18' tall giant rhododendrons. They blossom in early July and are not to be missed. Take a picnic lunch with you.

SEPTEMBER
nearby Pack Monadnock is a prime Hawk Watch site. The Wapack Range is a major flyway for migrating raptors. Drive to the mountaintop and watch hundreds soar majestically by each day.

OCTOBER
Foliage season in New England is legendary. Usually the first two weeks of October is color at its best, but call the Foliage Hot Line to be sure: 800-258-3608. Book very early; by July rooms are very hard to find. Three Maples weekends are often reserved by June and many B&Bs/Inns ask a two-day weekend reservation in October, as we do.

The Great Pumpkin Festival in Keene. This lively college town (with the widest Main Street In the U.S.) lights up to break its own Guiness Book of Records mark of 21,700 lighted pumpkins in one place at one time. Happens on Halloween weekend, and includes fireworks.....but book early!!
